Taj Mahal Quartzite Island for a St George’s Hill Home
A large, bright kitchen brought together with a 3m x 4m island in natural Taj Mahal quartzite.
Introduction
This project sits in one of St George’s Hill’s most sought-after homes. The brief was simple: create a standout island that feels light, modern, and timeless. Taj Mahal quartzite was the perfect choice. Its warm tone, soft veining, and natural depth work beautifully in large open spaces.
The island measures 3m x 4m, so accuracy during templating and installation was essential. The slab had to be joined at one point due to its size, and the aim was to keep the pattern balanced and the surface smooth. The result is a clean, refined centrepiece that anchors the whole room.
Project Overview
The clients wanted a durable natural stone that would sit comfortably with their modern cabinetry and flooring. Taj Mahal quartzite gives the look of marble but performs better in a busy kitchen. It also works well with large-format designs where the stone needs to make an impact without overwhelming the space.
The island is the main feature, but every detail was templated with care to ensure the veining followed a natural flow. Edges were finished to a crisp profile, and the subtle colour of the stone keeps the space bright and calm.
